Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present:
With a quorum of the Board Members present, Chairman McRoy called the meeting to order at
7:10 p.m. in the City Hall Council Conference Room at Allen City Hall, 305 Century Parkway
Agenda Item 1: Approve Minutes from Special Called meeting from March 1, 2006.
Motion: Upon a motion by Boardmember Kirk and a second by Boardmember
Brown the Board voted 5 IN FAVOR, 0 OPPOSED, to approve the
minutes. The motion carried.

Agenda Item 2: Discussion Item — Hold discussion on the Board and Commission
Appointment Process and complete the Board Evaluation Form.
The Board read and discussed the Board Evaluation Form. The comments are as follows:
What would be the ideal characteristics for a Board Member?
• Independent thinker
• Emotionally mature
• Honesty
• Good listener
• Ask good questions
• Committed
How extensive is the collective experience of the Board members in the Board's subject area?
• The current Board's collective experience is good, with the possible exception of Building
Standards.
• It would be helpful to have experience serving on other Boards and live in the City for a
while.
Are there any Board -related subject areas where the Board could use more knowledge?
• Building Standards — lacking of experience in that area.
Is the Board's knowledge current in regards to changes in construction practices and development
law?
• Annual training.
• Request advance training on any upcoming hearings regarding Building Standards.
What other knowledge or experience could be brought to the Board to improve it?
• Construction experience
Is the membership representative of Allen's citizens?
• Yes

Boardmember Brown expressed his concerned regarding a former City of Allen staff member being
appointed to the Board.

Motion: Upon a motion by Boardmember Kirk, and a second by Boardmember
Brown, the Board voted 5 IN FAVOR and 0 OPPOSED to adjourn the Board
of Adjustment meeting at 7:50 p.m.
