Min - Public Art Committee - 2014 - 06/19 - RegularCommittee Members: Denise Gilbert, Chair Susan Barry Jane Bennett Steve Benson Emile Carriere Ann Carroll City Staff: Lori Smeby, Assistant Director, Parks and Recreation Matt McComb, Landscape Architect, Parks and Recreation Members Absent: Matthew Grant Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum of the committee members present, the regular meeting of the Public Art Committee was called to order by Chair Gilbert at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in the Parks and Recreation Conference Room at 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas. 1. Approve minutes from the August 19, 2014 Regular Meeting MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Barry and seconded by committee member Carrrere, the committee voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed to accept minutes from the August 19, 2014 regular meeting as presented. 2. Establish Design and Project Budget for Public Art at Watters Branch Community Park After discussion, which included comparing surrounding cities public an budgets, the following motion was brought forward. MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Carroll and seconded by committee member Bennett, the committee voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed to set the project and design budget for Public Art at Watters Branch Community Park at $100,000. 1 3. Ongoing Project Update Mr. McComb reported that the plaque for Chac has been order and will be installed once it arrives. This installation should make the project complete. Members Bennett and Carroll reported on the Public Art 101 workshop that they recently attended. One project budgeting tip that they shared with the group was the recommendation that 15%n of a public art project budget go toward design and the remaining 85% toward fabrication. 5. Items of Interest a. Items for Future Agendas 1. Discussion on ways the Public Art Committee can support Public Art in the future. b. Next meeting Tuesday, October 21, 2014 6. Adjourn There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:16 p.m. These minutes read and approved this 21" day of October 2014. �-Aoq�� Chair Secretary J The group discussed that they would like the art for this project to take different forms to allow for multiple an pieces in multiple locations throughout the park. The group also discussed that they would like to seek out artists that are able to work within the theme, create unity, be versatile, and which can design pieces that are fun, colorful, and kinetic. The group then moved on to review the works of artists that have applied for previous projects and identify artists of interest. 4.
