Present: Committee Members: Emile Carriere, Chair Matthew Grant Ann Carroll Jane Bennett Susan Barry Steve Benson Denise Gilbert Robin Sedlacek, City Council Liaison City Staff: Matt McComb, Landscape Architect, Parks and Recreation Ryan Brandon, Marketing Coordinator, Parks and Recreation & Allen Event Center Jennifer Robinson, Senior Administrative Assistant, Parks and Recreation Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum of the committee members present, the regular meeting of the Public Art Committee was called to order by Chair Carriere at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in the Parks and Recreation Conference Room at 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas. 1. Conduct the Election of Officers Chair Carriere opened nominations for the positions. The elections concluded as follows. MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Carriere and seconded by committee member Bennett, the committee voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed to elect Denise Gilbert to the office of Committee Chair. MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Bennett and seconded by member Gilbert, the committee voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed to elect committee member Ann Carroll to the office of Committee Vice -Chair. MOTION. Upon a motion made by committee member Bennett and seconded by committee member Carriere, the committee voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed to elect Steve Benson to the office of Committee Secretary. 1 2. Approve minutes from the April 17, 2012 Regular Meeting. PUBLIC ART COMMITTE REGULAR MEETING October 16, 2012 MOTION: Upon a motion made by committee member Carroll and seconded by committee member Carriere, the committee voted seven (7) for and none (0) opposed to accept minutes from the April 17, 2012 regular meeting as presented. Discussion Items 3. Update on Public Art Mapping Project Ryan Brandon, Marketing Coordinator for Parks and Recreation & Allen Event Center shared with the committee a mock website for Public Art with five pieces of the art collection listed. He explained to the committee that the finished website will include a Google Map with the location of each piece. The committee inquired if there could be a picture associated with each location on the map and Mr. Brandon responded that would likely be possible but will follow up. He went on to explain that there will also be a rotator at the top of the website that can feature up to five pictures. The committee expressed a desire to have the Public Art website listed under the Visit Allen tab on the main page and more picture click-throughs. 4. Update on Exchange Parkway Project Matt McComb, Landscape Architect for Parks and Recreation shared photos of the project with the committee He noted that the project should be finished by October 20 with the exception of the red steel throughout the secondary pieces. Mr McComb explained that much of the project delay can be contributed to issues with the secondary pieces. The quarry producing the pieces was closed for three weeks and then several of the pieces that were shipped were deemed substandard. Committee would like to consider a dedication of this piece for early December. 5. Update on Possible Temporary Art Installation Mr. McComb shared photos of the progress of the piece and explained it will be constructed on a rotating platform so that it can accommodate the changing angle of the sun. Discussion on possible locations for the piece included the Blue House and the Allen Senior Recreation Center. Mr. McComb will provide an estimated date of completion for the project at the next meeting 6. Items of Interest a. Items for Future Agendas 1. Update on Public Art webpage development and mapping 2.
