Library Donor Recognition Project Barbara Buehler, Director of the Allen Public Library gave a brief background on the plaque of donor names that was installed in the previous Allen Public Library Building. Barbara indicated that the initial vision on the donor project was that it would be located Public Art Committee November 26, 2007 Minutes - Page 2 somewhere in the courtyard area of the current facility (north end), and that it be flexible with a way to add names as future donations occur. Lori Smeby, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation reviewed the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) drafted by her and Matt McComb, Landscape Architect. Ruth Pringle, indicated she had several desires regarding this project, some of those being as follows: 1) Simple 2) Elegant, recognizable, important, match style of current facility 3) Maintainable 4) Sense of urgency regarding timeline Lori Smeby suggested the possibility of doing a "Charter Donor" project, and a brief discussion was held regarding the feasibility of adding more names through the years, and about where the funding would come from for the addition of the names, etc. There was a general consensus that the "Charter Donor" idea would be a better, more manageable project for the artists who would be responding to the RFQ. These names would include those taken from the old recognition wall, along with those who have contributed to the new facility Lori indicated she and Matt would be further refining the RFQ and also discussed several options for making the artist community aware of the need. 4. Sculpture Presentation Matt McComb, Landscape Architect for the Parks and Recreation Department reviewed with the Committee his presentation to the Senior Advisory Committee (a copy of that presentation is attached to these minutes). Matt reported that Chair, Jane Bennett attended the meeting as well, and both felt that upon completion of the presentation, the Advisory Committee was in support of the statute being placed on the north side of the Allen Senior Recreation Center. Plans will move ahead to have the sculpture area prepared (footings), professional movers, electric work to allow lighting, as well as a plaque describing the piece, the artist information, as well as the donor information. It was pointed out that this placement is not exclusive to the Seniors of Allen, it will also afford viewing by many other groups using the facility for dinners, celebrations, meetings, etc. Public Art Committee November 26, 2007 Minutes - Page 3 5.
