Min - Keep Allen Beautiful Board - 1997 - 05/07 - RegularCITY OF ALLEN KEEP ALLEN BEAUTIFUL COMMITTEE MAY 7,1997 Staff Present: Jesse Ingram, Public Works (Streets) Craig Gillis, Fire Department Bobby Trevino, Parks and Recreation Tara Fletcher, Police Department Kathy Parkhurst, Economic Development Audrey Smyth, Community Development George Conner, Public Works Council members: Melissa Owen Other Members: Heidi Smalley, Allen Environmental Action League WORKSHOP SESSION - 9:00 A.M. With the above members present, the fourth monthly meeting of the Keep Allen Beautiful Committee was called to order. Melissa Owen, Chairperson, started with asking Heidi Smalley to give us a trash -off update. Heidi announced that the Collin County Clean -Up date was set for May 17, 1997 Melissa gave us a summary on the procedures used to interview potential Board members and that Council Representatives, Melissa Owen, Lonnie Thomas and Ken Folk were going to conduct the interviews. The City Council representatives were meeting Thurdsday morning, May 8, 1997, and would be setting up a date and time for the interviews and would let committee members know in advance. Slogans suggested this meeting were "Allen in Action" by Kathy Parkhurst and "YOU do make the difference" by Jesse Ingram. Discussion came up on illegal dumping. Audrey Smyth shared information about the North Central Texas Council of Government's new Regional Illegal Dumping Hotline Program. Allen is included and our City contact's are Audrey Smyth, Craig Gillis and Conrad Avema. Jesse Ingram suggested that signs be posted at problem areas in Allen displaying the maximum fine and the hotline number. Someone suggested that we have more litter barrels around town on the mediums and Melissa �I said that we could get the businesses in town to purchase these barrels by letting them advertize their business on the side of the barrels. KEEP ALLEN BEAUTIFUL n MAY 7,1997 PAGE A suggestion was made about getting the builders in town involved in our program The idea of having a reception for all the local builders to introduce our program to them would be something to suggest to our new Board. Melissa also said that Subcommittees of the Board could be used for designating a'Builder of the Month" each month. Other Business: Audrey gave us an update on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Day Saints community services hours that they are donating to our community. On July 19, 1997, each congregation (worldwide) will be donating 150 hours to their communities in celebration of the trek across the U.S. to Utah, 150 years ago. There are 3 congregations in the Allen area and at least one and maybe the other two congregations me going to restain all of the playground equipment in the Allen neighborhood parks as well as add gravel to the playground new. Our Parks and Recreation Department will be providing the stain and gravel and Bobby Trevino is the liaison for the City of Allen. George Conner, our newest member to our committee, gave us a handout on the new garbage service coming to Allen in June, 1997. He went over the handout and explained the new schedule and procedures to the committee. Next meeting will be held on June 4, 1997, at 9:00 P.M., in the Conference Room at the Municipal Annex.
