WORKSHOP SESSION - 9:30 A.M.
With the above members present, the fifth monthly meeting of the Keep Allen Beautiful Committee was
called to order. Melissa Owen, Chairperson, started with announcing our new board members (Sandra
Sanders, Heidi Smalley, Sherry Johnson, Patricia Buckley, Lonnie Simmons, and Phillip Larkin).
Melissa then introduced our guest speaker, Tim Dealer. Tim wanted to make some suggestions for
Allen in the future. He wants to establish an identity for Allen, kind of like Richardson with their
wildflowers. Tim suggested maybe a Flower Festival, a seasonal color program, using domesticated
perennials for Adopt -A -Spots or flower boxes along Main Street. We all liked the ideas and thought
Tim needed to visit with the new board on these same ideas and suggestions.
Melissa announced that she was going to the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference next week and hoped
to come back with literature, updated knowledge and great ideas and suggestions for all of us.
Audrey and Bobby gave and update on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Day Saints community
service day on July 19, 1997. All three local congregations will be participating and not only will the
park's playground equipment get stained and painted, but the playground areas will get new gravel
added to them.
Next meeting will be held on July 21. 1997, at 10.00 A.M. in the Conference Room at the Municipal
Annex.
