Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present With a quorum present, Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Kerry Craven at 635 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. in the Engineering Large Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas 2. KA B Grant Req uests: Scout Coordination with Randy Boys, Scoutmaster Discussion of Reuse A Bag distribution with scouts and volunteers on Saturday, May 2 front 1 I am to 1 pm. Wesley Webre, Eagle Scout Candidate: Presentation of additional funding for his Eagle Scout project for lunch for volunteers. MOTION: Pat Buckley made a motion to fund a pizza lunch for the volunteers for Wesley Webre's Eagle Scout project involving the Vaughan Elementary School Community of less than $100. Motion was seconded by Stacy Gonzales, with all in favor Seeding a Healthy Community Raptor Presentation Funding: Donna Kliewer presented the bill from the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center for their part in the "Seeding" event. MOTION: Pat Bucklev made a motion for KAB to fund the remaining balance of $100 for the Raptor Center bill after other donations of $200 toward the $300 bill. Discuss Renewal of Allen Eagle Football Program Ad MOTION: Bev Pruitt made a motion to not continue to fund the KAB advertisement in the Allen Eagle football program Stacy Gonzales seconded the motion, with all in favor. 4. Approve minutes of February 16, 2009 and March 17, 2009 March minutes were the only ones available. MOTION: Pat Buckley made a motion to approve the March minutes as they stand. Stacy Gonzales seconded the motion, with all in favor. 5. Receive Financial Report/Budget Update Donna Kliewer reported that American National Bank has a balance of $21,350.78. The City KAB balance is around $6,000 6. Receive Reports from Strategic Planning Initiatives a. Communication Kerry Craven and Donna Kliewer cancelled "A Nurtured World" after a discussion of attendance deficits prior to the event. Discussion of the next venue to reschedule the presentation followed. b Environmental Center Bev Pruitt spoke about the Big Bend Barton Warnock Environmental Education Center. 1 c. Environmental Education in AISD Stacy Gonzales reported on the use of paper in AISD elementary schools in regards to the weekly folders sent home with students. She inquired about the possible use of electronic transmission of information to parents to save AISD paper costs. it Parks and Recreation Liaison Bev Pruitt attended the May 11 Parks Board meeting. She reported that she had also contacted Steve Nagy regarding zero waste events 7. Receive Update on KAB Events and Projects a. Seeding a Healthy Community—AAR This event was extremely well-received by the community The non -profits involved will meet again to begin planning next year's event Pat Buckley commented on the lack of posters or outside advertisement in the shopping center to advertise the event prior to the date b. A Nurtured World — AAR Discussion of the lack of response and the "green" events that took place to April. Discussion of the best time of year to present this program to the community c. Live Green Expo — April 18 KAB not impressed with the size of the space designated for the booth; very crowded venue. Discussion of a better way to display City of Allen R KAB logos on the booth. Allen residents were excited to see Allen represented at the event d. Great American Cleanup — April 25 0 I Discussion and instruction about the event day Reuse a Shoe contest preliminary results are in; GAC volunteers are requested for both areas. Reuse a Bags will be handed out to participants at the events at Bossv Boots and at City Hall Constable's office will take charge of traffic at Bossy Boots site for safety e. KTB Youth Awards Due — April 28 Discussion of deadline and submissions. f KAB & CWD Reportto Council —May 12 Discussion of need for KAB members to attend. Stacy Gonzales, Vice -Chair will do the presentation. Reuse a Shoe contest winners' awards will also take place this night. Disucssmn of need to conduct a Litter Index for KAmB and KTB reports and a date for this. g. KTB Conference—.lune 8-11 Registration is requested to be in prior to deadline to get the early discount. It. USA Celebration—June 27 Discussion of Zero Waste event and ways to promote it to Council & Parks prior to this date. City Secretary asked KAB to donate flowers for VIP tent again this year. Stacy Gonzales volunteered to find a donor. I Cyclone Electronics Collection at City Hall — Auaust 8 I. Educator Expo — September 17 This will be the first Expo to be held at the AISD Administration Building at their invitation. k. Allen Recycles Day — November 7 1 Rotary Holidav Parade — December 6 m. Seeding a Healthv Community — April 10, 2010 8 Discussion of Beep Texas Beautiful Youth Awards Discussion of the progress of youth and youth group written summaries.
