Call to Order and Announce a Quorum is Present With a quorum present, Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Pat Buckley at 6 33pm on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas 2. Public Recognition/Citizens Comments/Introduction of Guests Allen resident, Griff Lowe, was introduced as was new board member, Jason Sheppard. 3. Update by Parks and Recreation on Various and Upcoming Events Susan Campbell thanked KAB members for their support at the Tree Farm sales for Trees for Allen; she reported that Rhett Rasmussen, Eagle Scout candidate, led his troop to load trees during the sale. Next Saturday's tree sale will be under the direction of Audra Martin with the assistance of the Collin County Court teens. Parks will deliver 360 trees to residents next week; the Green Team finished the purchase of the pre -sold trees this week. Once again, 200 free trees will be handed out by volunteer scouts during the Great American Cleanup. Arbor Day on Much 1 will have 35 trees to plant by volunteers into pre -dug holes, the Lady Bird Johnson commemorative garden will be planted by volunteers with Lady Bird Dwarf Cosmos. The bluebonnets along US75 should bloom the third week of March. Trent Armstrong seconded the motion with all in favor. 5. Receive Financial ReportBudeet The City KAB account balance is $15,269.62. The KAB bank account balance is $21,214.55. 8. Update on KAB Events • Leadership Conference, Feb 8, AAR: Stacy reported that the event was informative and fun with information on handling both business and personal goals; a recommended event. • Governor's Community Achievement Awards (GCAA) — Update: Audra Martin presented the deadlines and result dates for the GCAA. • Keep Texas Beautiful Individual Awards —Update: Audra reported the awards that were sent to KTB on this deadline Discussion included subjects to be submitted for the Youth Awards in May • Trees for Allen — February 16, 8 — 12noon at the Tree Fawn, Rowlett Tower 1 o Trent A & Dan J; Green Team, SCampbell & scouts AAR • Trees for Allen — Feb 23, 8 — 12noon at the Tree Farm, Rowlett Tower o Kerry C, Bev P, Stacy G; HHW team & Collin Co Teens • Presentation of Arbor Day Poster Contest Winners to Council, Feb 26, 7pm • Arbor Day Celebration, March 1, 9 — 11, Waterford Phase 5 Neighborhood Park: Pat Buckley will present the Arbor Day Poster Contest Winners as well as dedicate the Lady Bird Johnson commemorative wildflower garden. • SmartScapes seminar (Ms. Green Thumb), March 20, Sr Rec Center, 10- 12noon • Reuse a Shoe Contest, March 25 — April 18 o Council recognition for winners will be scheduled after the GAC • Great American Cleanup (GAC), April 26, 8 — Ipm, Bossy Boots Circle: additional adult volunteer assistance will be needed at City Hall for the Brinks Document Shred. GCAA, Individual and Youth Awards Discussion took place during the Events and Projects portion of the meeting. 8. Environmental Center Tim Derider's comments about partnering with the Plano Environmental Center were passed on to the board. 10. Items of Interest to the Board A discussion with the Parks Department regarding a "Park Rangers" idea was presented to the board, as well as the meeting regarding the Allen USA Green Event presentation from KAB and CWD Allen Garden Club has requested donation/sponsorship of a banner for the annual Garden Tour and will make a formal presentation at the next meeting. The Parks Board is ready to stock their "Tool Trailer." KAB will provide yards bags for recycling yard waste for this trailer. Report from Audra M regarding the reusable shopping bags. Pat and Trent have pledged to visit with the media department at the Allen High School regarding promotional materials 11.
