Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present With a quorum present, Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Pat Buckley at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas. 2. Public Recognition/Citizens Comments/ Introduction of Guests Brian Bristow, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Dept., was recognized as a guest speaker. 3. Update by Parks and Recreation on Various and Upcoming Events Mr. Bristow announced that the Parks Dept. is looking for a new liaison to KAB. 4. Environmental Center Mr. Bristow presented the preliminary plans for the Molsen Farm facility, including the physical site and possible components and uses for the environmental center. S. Approve minutes of March 18, 2008, April 15, 2008, and May 20, 2008 MOTION: Jason Shepard moved to accept the March 18, 2008, April 15, 2008, and May 20, 2008 minutes. Kerry Craven seconded the motion with all in favor. 1 6. Receive Financial Report/ Budget Update Donna Kliewer highlighted available funds following recent purchases. The City account balance is 8,573.66 and the KAB account balance is 17,683.05. 7. Update on KAB Events and Projects • June 21 — Sustainable Landscape Seminar Series: Design Basics for Sustainability, 10 a.m.-noon at Ron Gentry Training Center • June 24-27 — KTB Conference is coming soon, in Irving. • June 28 — Allen USA Celebration will be a zero -waste event. C WD has donated approximately $10,000 in services, food service compostable-wares, and event signage. KAB members volunteered to help set out containers and man the information booth the day of the event • June 30 — Court kids work day — 1 I a.m.- KAB will provide hot dog lunch at Bethany Lakes Park • July 19 — Sustainable Landscape Seminar Series: Choosing Plant Material for Sustainability, 10 a.m.- noon at Ron Gentry Training Center • July/ August — Litter Index su vey; Volunteers needed. ' • Aug. 2 — Cyclone electronic collection at City Hall, 8a.m. -1 p m. • Sept 25 — Educator's Expo, 4:30 — 6:00 p.m. KAB members asked to begin gathering prize donations. • Sept. 29 — KAB Strategic Planning- lunch beginning at noon, meeting 1- 5 p.m. • Nov 1, Jan 17, and April 25 — Cyclone electronic collection at City Hall; waste service changes begin July I to electronic, bulk, and brush pickup. 8. KTB Convention Audra Martin reminded the board of the conference dates and who was registered for which days. Full conference schedule and travel information was given out. 9. Items of Interest to the Board • Donna presented a request from Allen High School Football Booster Club to help sponsor team t -shirts. She noted that KAB has already placed a recycling advertisement in the football program. MOTION: Trent Armstrong moved to not fund the football team shirts. Stacy Gonzales seconded the motion with all in favor. • Kerry Craven noted that the Community Services Dept, created recycling brochures for her company and department staff was present at their health fair to pass out the literature and speak with employees. • Trent Armstrong opened discussion on the Allen Garden Club's recent tour of gardens. Donna Kliewer reported that they raised a significant amount of money to support their programs. KAB sponsored the tour and donated a door prize. • Pat Buckley asked for input from members regarding the ideal characteristics of a new KAB board member. 10.
