Call to Order and Announce a Quorum Is Preseut With a quorum present, Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Brian Casstevens at 6:35 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas. 2. Introduction of Guests Collin County Chief Deputy Constable Lonnie Simmons was present. Mr. Simmons conveyed his thanks to the board for their support and for nominating him for the Ed Davis Litter Law Award and asked that they continue their good work. 3. Approve April 19, 2005 and June 21, 2005 Minutes MOTION: Pat Buckley made a motion to approve the April 19, 2005 and June 21, 2005 minutes as they stand; John Kelly seconded the motion will all in favor. 4. Financial ReoorfBudeet Current balance in the KAB checking account is $9,268.01 plus a $50 uncashed check. The City account balance is $11,418.27 5. Parks and Recreation Update Donna Kliewer provided an update on the Arbor Day Celebration to be held at Montgomery Farm on April 8. Discussion of Arbor Day activities, Trees for Allen program and information delivery for next year. 6. KAB Events • Governor's Award/Individual KTB Awards Recognition Discussion of the Council award recognition on July 26 Waterway cleanup with Collin County Discussion of waterway cleanup done at Lake Lavon on June 2 in coordination with the Collin County Constable's office and Lucas Fire Marshall. Discussion of including a waterway cleanup on the date of another event rather than as a separate program. Discussion of including a waterway cleanup on the date of another event rather than as a separate program. • Environmental Education Workshop — September 22 Discussion of time, 4:30pm to 6pm; update from Carol on donations; discussion of the flow of the evening and where help is needed. • Allen Recycles Day — November 5 i Discussion of including a waterway cleanup in the day's activities to possibly get more waterway participants. Donna Kliewer presented the KTB Trash Fish promotion. Ron Wheless volunteered to coordinate the waterway cleanup in conjunction with Allen Recycles Day activities. Discussion of an ad campaign using the Trash Fish for ACTV 15 to promote the waterway cleanup MOTION: John Kelly made a motion that KAB pursue a promotion for the KTB Lake and River Cleanup and to get more involved with the KTB promotion. Pat Buckley seconded the motion with all in favor. • National Arbor Day Poster Contest — November ? Discussion of a possible earlier date for the contest; ideas to solicit more participation from 5" grade teachers and students. • Trees for Allen — February thru March Discussion of quick and efficient delivery of information and materials. • Arbor Day Celebration — April 1 Discussion of plans for the Celebration at Montgomery Famrs. • Great American Cleanup—April 22 Discussion of Earth Day and week events; GAC is in coordination with Frisco's cleanup. • KTB Convention —June 26-28,2006 in Plano 7. Items of Interest to the Board The Board suggested that we consider purchasing a small video camera for the board to record before/during/after pictures of areas targeted for cleanups. Discussion of litter - free promotion based on Capt. Waste's suggestion of one piece of litter a day per person, times the population of any area or building; EPA kits for education that Erin brought back from EPA Roundtable; discussion of what the Board would like to have in the KTB award scrapbook and of the Governor's Award criteria. 8. Ad ourn The regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board was adjourned at 8:20pm on Tuesday, July 19, 2005.
