Introduction of Guests Matthew Britton, 224 Eagle Scout Troop Mr. Britton, Matthew's father Susan Campbell, Urban Forester, Parks and Recreation Department Pat Buckley Robert Medigovich and Richard West of Community Waste Disposal 3. Approve the Minutes of the February 18, 2003 and March 18, 2003 Reaular Meetine MOTION: Motion made Brian Casstevens to approve the minutes. Motion accepted by Susan Bernard and seconded by Synne Ferguson. Items of Interest to the Board • Parks and Recreation Projects Update, Susan Campbell. • Susan Campbell thanked the board for their participation and tree donation in honor of Arbor Day Celebration, which took place on April 5' at Waters Crossing. • Susan notified Board that there were still two trees available for Board Members, if they wished to take them. • Eagle Scout Project, guest Matthew Benison, presented birdhouse project for City greenbelt areas. Asked KAB to support funding for the project Matthew presented a letter and other materials to KAB. • Motion made by Susan Bernard, Chairperson, to vote on project. • Board members Synne Ferguson, Susan Bernard, Steve Massey and Brian Casstevens discussed material, support mechanism, paint and other details. Ron Wheless made motion to accept amount not to exceed $350 to fund the project, to be paid from City appropriated funds. Motion seconded by Mary Fritsche. Board unanimously agreed to accept the project. • Financial Report/Budget. Steve Massey discussed the financial balance of $6400. $1200 to City project fund. Board discussed adding an action item or amendment to brig spreadsheet of financial information to next meeting. Information is from last month's information as it stands. Motion made by Ron Wheless and seconded by Brian Casstevens to accept the report. Board approved. • AISD Action Plan Development, Synne Ferguson. Discussion led by Synne Ferguson informing Board of current status and upcoming events. • Synne Ferguson discussed Pizza party, scheduled for May 2. Requested more detailed information from Susan Bernard on Pizza Hut. • Reed Elementary currently in the lead with 1782 shoes, Vaughn Elementary is in second place. • Susan Bernard announced Pizza will be paid for and sponsored by Pizza Hut Regional Office, which will save the board approximately $1200 • Suggestion made by KAB to submit the event is put in newspaper when done. • KAB By -Laws, Susan Bernard. Susan Bernard regarding modifications made to bylaws during last board meeting initiated discussion. Chair Bernard noted the exceptional success of the board working bard together toward this accomplishment. • Board Members re -convened and completed last two sections of by-law updates and modifications. • Motion made by Mary Frusche to accept By -Laws are is and append at next meeting to adapt changes required to match City Council changes. Motion seconded by Brian Casstevens. Board approves. • Upcoming KAB Events. • Great American Trash Off April 26th. Board discussed upcoming event and plans to participate. • Board to cook hotdogs and participate in serving. Board to wear shirts which indicate KAB. • Governor's Award: Not prepared to enter by deadline of May 5. • Presentation of trophy to winning "Reuse a Shoe" classroom or school winner at City Council Meeting- May 13 Donna to schedule this event • Corporate Challenge — June 5. Steve discussed pressuring the local corporations for participation this year. • Keep Texas Beautiful- July 8 - 11. Information sent out and discussed scheduling a room, which board agreed upon. Board discussed last year's conference and Donna encouraged participation. • Other Items of Interest: Board discussed several items of interest, as listed below: o Ker Elementary School is having Family Fun Night first Saturday, May 2. Suggestion made by Park and Recreation to share a booth. Board decided to not participate. o Steve Massey suggested working on getting membership for KAB started again. Suggested putting together a database and charging $5 for fee. Board requested Sue Berry as membership volunteer chairman. Sue accepted. KEEP ALLEN BEAUTIFUL REGULAR MEETING APRIL, 15 2003 PAGE o Susan Bernard discussed attending the Summer Concert Series and suggested selling shirts for $5. o Susan Bernard suggested adding signs to the Allen area, reminding people to not litter. o Board discussed Yard of the Month sign and where this may be located Program in place at one time. Susan proposed starting up again. Synne Ferguson debated; wanting to make sure the board did not stray too far from its original purpose of protecting and saving the environment. o CWD notified KAB it was donating a reading garden to Kea Elementary — if Kerr Elementary was agreeable to the donation. o Discussion of KAB web site. Susan Bernard asked Brian Casstevens if he would be interested in taking ownership. Brian stated the site was registered to the Crry under Katherine Poteet. Brian will send emails to Steve Massey and Donna Kliewer related to current correspondence. 10. Adjourn MOTION: Upon a motion made by Board member Ron Wheless and a second by Board member Mary Frusche, the Board voted four (4) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board at 8:36 p.m on Tuesday April 15, 2003.
