Min - Keep Allen Beautiful Board - 2002 - 08/20 - RegularMINUTES E KEEP ALLEN BEAUTIFUL BOARD REGULAR CALLED MEETING TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 2002 KABB Members Present Pat Buckley, Chair Kurt Kizer Mary Fritsche Sheila Curtis (Absent) Wendy Gardner Susan Bernard Staff Present Steve Massey, Director of Community Services Donna Kliewer, Recycling/Solid Waste/HHW Coordinator Susan Campbell, Urban Forester for Allen Parks and Recreation Department 1. Call to Order With a quorum of the Board members present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Buckley at 7:07 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2002, in the Council 2. Chambers Conference Room at City Hall, One Allen Civic Plaza, Allen, Texas. Introduction of Guests No guests were present. 3. Approve the Minutes of the duly 16, 2002 Regular Meeting MOTION: Upon a motion made by Board member Kurt Kizer and a second by Board member Mary Fritsche, the Board voted four (4) for and none (0) opposed to approve as corrected the Minutes of the July 16, 2002, Regular Meeting. The motion carred. 4. Vote on Time and/or Date Change for KAB Meetings Vote was tabled by unanimous consent until after October when the new members will be able to voice their opinions. 4. Items of Interest to the Board • Financial Report/Budget Remaining budget in City account is being spent on educational items. KAB bank account has not had any withdrawals and remains at $5450.25. • Parks & Recreation Projects Update, Susan Campbell The "Green Side Up" class is being held October 8 & 10 from 6:00 p.m to 900 p.m. KAB agreed earlier to sponsor refreshments for these classes. KAB will serve a veggie platter for the first class and a fruit platter for the second class per Susan Campbell's request KEEP ALLEN BEAUTIFUL REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 20, 2002 PAGE • September 11, 2002 Commemoration, Susan Campbell A preliminary program was given to KAB members with discussion of the event. The tree has been purchased and some additional landscaping will take place before the event. Practice times have been scheduled with the Police and Fire Departments. Discussion included the role of KAB in the event. • AISD Action Plan Development Update Mary Fntsche presented the educational plan she has created to present recycling information to AISD principals, teachers and students. October will be the target date for awareness of Texas Recycles Day on November 9 KAB must approve any information given to AISD students before it is handed out. AISD Public Information Officer must also approve anything given to AISD students before schools will accept materials. • Texas Recycles Day, November 9. Discussion included snuffers for utility bills, AISD contests, and community information. Allen Garden Club expressed interest in having AISD student volunteers help clean up two yards of residents in need of assistance. KAB will contact the Key Club, and Jr. High and High School Honor Societies, and the Builder's Club for volunteers. Other participants will include the Allen Animal Shelter, Friends of the Library, Cyclone Aluminum, Allen Community Outreach, and Adopt -A -Highway groups Discussion included the notice of the AISD recycled art contests. It was concluded that they should be notified of the contests 30 days in advance of Texas Recycles Day. • Items of Interest. Brian Bristow of the Parks and Recreation Department asked KAB for financial support or $200 to help sponsor the `Dirt Doctor" for an informational evening seminar. By unanimous vote, it was decided that this opportunity did not fit in accordance with KAB's financial plan or purpose. 5. Adlourn MOTION: Upon a motion made by Board member Mary Fntsche and a second by Board member Wendy Gardner, the Board voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2002.
