Min - Keep Allen Beautiful Board - 2001 - 03/20 - RegularStaff Present Steve Massey, Director of Community Services Donna Kliewer, Administrative Secretary Guests Present Tim Dentler, Parks Superintendent Suzan Campbell, Urban Forester Call to Order With a quorum of the Board members present, the Keep Allen Beautiful Regular Meeting was called to order by Chair Simmons at 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Much 20, 2001, in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, One Allen Civic Plaza, Allen, Texas. 2. Introduction of Guests Guests present were Tim Dentler, Parks Service Manager, and Susan Campbell, Urban Forester of the City of Allen Parks and Recreation Department. 3. Approve the Minutes of the February 27, 2001 Regular Meeting MOTION: Upon a motion made by Board member Shelia Curtis and a second by Board member Audrey Smyth, the Board voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed to approve the Minutes of the February 27, 2001, Regular Meeting. The motion carried. 4. Spring 2001 Clean Up Discussion was held regarding the upcoming Spring Clean Up and Arbor Day event scheduled April 28, 2001. Steve Massey reported that the fliers were printed and would be distributed in the next four utility billing cycles. Discussion included layout of the Spring Spruce Up, signage, court assigned volunteer participation, placement of dumpster containers, ACO pick up, and Parks and Recreation tree distribution. 5. Corporate Sponsorship Item was tabled until after the Spring 2001 Clean Up event. Project Updates PAGE • Winter newsletter, Board Member McKenna reported that the newsletter was printed, duplicated and would be mailed this week. • The True Value representative will give a talk on lawn maintenance on Thursday, March 29, 2001, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bethany Lake Clubhouse. Items of Interest to the Board • Financial report/budget, Board member Smyth reported that there is $13,669.38 in the KAB account. • The Keep Texas Beautiful annual meeting is in Fort Worth in June. Discussion included cost and number of board members planning to attend. • A list of goals and accomplishments for 2000 was distributed. • School Educational Activities discussion included contests for spring and fall events, more participation with the schools in recycling and promotions. Board member Buckley recommended the Waste In Place program for schools. • Discussion and distribution of nomination forms for the Volunteer Environmental Award Application. Board member Buckley suggested several people, groups and activities that may be nominated for this award. Nominations are due April 12, 2001 in Austin. • Discussion of the Adopt A Highway program included possibly adding two groups to an area or highway for more coverage during the contract year. Parks and Recreation we setting up rules and guidelines for an Adopt a Park program. • Discussion of a themed event to promote the City of Allen. • Discussion to move the fall Trash Off day, presently scheduled in November, to a different date in order to have more favorable weather. • Discussion of a May Budget Workshop. May meeting will be to discuss and set up next year's budget. 10. Adjourn MOTION: Upon a motion made by Board member Audrey Smyth and a second by Board member Amy Smith, the Board voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the regular session of the Keep Allen Beautiful Board at 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2001.
