Call to Order and Announce a Ouorum is Present
With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Allen Public Library was called to
order by Cal Calvin, Board Chair at 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday April 14 , 2004, in the Library Meeting Room of
the Allen Public Library, 2 Allen Civic Plaza, 301 Century Parkway, Allen, Texas.
Items discussed in the preceding meeting workshop included:
• Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Box Forms.
• Update on Trust Fund.
• Consider TexShare Card Program.
• Plan for Upcoming NETLS Meetings
• Update on Building Program.

2. Approve Minutes of the March 9, 2004, Regular Meeting.

Motion: Upon a motion made by Board member Julia Elina and a second by Board member Donna
Various, the Board voted (6) for and none (0) opposed to approve minutes of March 9, 2004.
3. Report from Teen Advisory Board Member.
The Teen Advisory Council Member, Michialann Gardner gave a report on the activities of the
Council. See attached sheet for her report. The Library Board welcomed her report and were pleased
to have a Teen Advisory Council Member attending the meetings to give input and suggestions.
4. Review Monthly Activity Report and Suggestion Box Forms.
The Board reviewed Monthly Reports and Suggestion Box Forms. A considerable increase in the
internet activity was noted.
5. Status of TexShare Card Program.
The Allen Public Library has adopted the Tex -Share Cards for six months to evaluate them.
6. Status of NETLS Coordinator Position.
Library Director, Barbara Buehler is on the Search Committee for the hiring of the new NETLS
Coordinator.
7. Review Allen Public Library's Annual Report to the Texas State Library.
The Library Board reviewed the Annual Report.
S. Select Member for Event Planning Committee.
In preparation of the Library moving to the new building an Event Planning Committee has been
formed to coordinate activities and help plan for the coming year. The committee has representatives
from the staff, Friends of the Library (Tracy Hanfft), Arts Alliance (Sharon Craft), AISD (Regina
Taylor) and In Long will represent the Library Board with Donna Various as substitute. The first
meeting will be May 5, 2004.
9. Other Business
The Teen volunteer video, made with a grant from NETLS, for recruiting teen volunteers was shown.
It was well done and all who worked on it were congratulated.
The Library Staff has made gifts of materials to be given to new parents at the hospital. The gifts are
entitled `9 read to my baby " They emphasize the importance of reading from a very early age.
