Meeting called to order by Mayor Gentry T, Jones
Aldermen present : R. B. Whisenant, Ken Posey, Dan Strong, and
Zack Robinson.
Absent : Bill Enloe
Minutes read and approved, correction in minutes of April 21
was made.
Carl Marion, Leon Chumbley, Ralph Dickson, met with the council
in regards to First Baptist Church building and asked to put
only one man-hole in existing line on West side of new addition.
They asked also for permission to hot top side walk area and
alley east of the church (all as shown on plot plan to be furnished
city by First Baptist Church. )
Motion: Mayor Jones made a motion the request made by the church
be granted.
Second : Dan Strong, motion passed, ayes 3, noes 0
Discussion of sewer proposal, Mayor Jones ask Mr. Hicks to study
proposal and bring it before council at another meeting, Mr. Hicks
said he would be present at the next council meeting.
Mayor Jones told the council of the Disastor Grant that was due us
and explained that Gene Ereckson had an Allen map and was showing
the streets & drainage areas that had been damaged by rain, so that
the council could study the map, and also check the streets them-
selves so we would have a complete damage estimate to report.
Mayor Jones reported to the council that Mr. Beer has not come
up with money on the 129 acres of land and another party is
wanting to purchase the property, and feels that if Mr. Beer of
Beer and Company does not have the money by May 31, 1966 which
is his expiration date, that the party waiting should have the
opportunity to purchase the property.
Motion: Mayor Jones made a motion that a letter be written to
Mrs . Francis Mayes and say that if Mr. Beer of Beer and
Company does not have a buyer by May 31, 1966 that the council will
except a contract from her client for $110,000.00
Second : Second by Dan Strong, Ayes 3, Noes 0.
Mr.Jones and the council discussed Mr. Loven, and his work as our
policeman, it was felt that the city expenses should be cut and
felt that Mr. Loven was no longer needed . Mr. Jones asked that a
letter be written to Mr. Loven stating that George Martin had been
appointed Chief of Police of the City of Allen.
Motion: Dan Strong made motion that Mr. R. B. Whisenant he made
Mayor pro-tem for following year.
Second : Second by Ken Posey. Motion passed, Ayes 4 Noes 0,
Motion: by R. B. Whisenant that present bills due be paid.
Second : by Dan Strong, motion passed, Ayes 4 , Noes 0.
Motion: By Ken Posey to give Allen Fire Dept. $100.00
Second : By Dan Strong. Motion passed, Ayes 4 Noes 0.
Motion: By R. B. Whisenant that George Martin be appointed Chief
of Police (changed from City Marshall to Chief of Police
by Mayor Jones) .
Second : By Zack Robinson, Passed , Ayes 4. Noes 0.
Meeting was adjourned by Mayor Jones.
