O-506-4-84ORDINANCE NO. 506-4-84 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, ABOLISHING THE AD VALOREM (PERSONAL PROPERTY) TAX ON AUTOMOBILES FOR THE TAX YEAR 1984; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the 66th Legislature of the State of Texas has voted into law House Bill 1060 (Article 11.25 of the Property Tax Code of the State of Texas), known as the "Tax Relief" Amendment effective, January 1, 1980; and, WHEREAS, Article 5 of House Bill 1060 (Article 11.25(b) of the Property Tax Code of the State of Texas applies to the exemption of personal automobiles, as defined herein, from the Tax Rolls of municipalities such as the City of Allen; and, WHEREAS, the City of Allen has the option of assessing and taxing all automobiles, as defined in said legislation, for the Tax Year 1984; and, WHEREAS, the governing bodies of the City of Allen and the Allen Independent School District have met and discussed thoroughly the merits and demerits of taxing said vehicles for the Tax Year 1984; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That "automobile" is defined herein as a passenger car or a light truck as those terms are defined by Section 2, Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on Highways, as amended (Article 6701d, VTCS). SECTION 2. That the City of Allen does not wish to exercise the option afforded it by virtue of House Bill 1060 (Article 11.25 of the Property Tax Code of the State of Texas), of assessing and taxing, as an ad valorem or personal property tax on, automobiles for the Tax Year 1984. SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage. DULY PASSED by the City Council of the City of Allen, Texas, on the 19th day of April , 1984.
