R-874-9-88RESOLUTION NO. 874-9-88(R) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, TEXAS, ESTABLISHING POLICY AND PROCEDURES RELATED TO NAMING MUNICIPAL FACILITIES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Allen desires to provide for an ordered process for the naming of municipal facilities; and, WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed and fully considered the procedures set forth herein, and find them to be acceptable, and in the best interests of the City, and is therefore of the opinion that they should be adopted; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, TEXAS: SECTION 1. Municipal facilities, (e.g., parks, public buildings or portions thereof), and other real properties, (e.g., houses, cemeteries, or other), will be named according to the following guidelines: A. Geographical or physical features; B. Historical features or significance; C. Individuals who have made significant contributions to the community. SECTION 2. Geographical and physical features will include those naturally occurring, (e.g., creeks or forrested areas), and those man-made, (e.g., sub -divisions, office/ industrial complexes or other commercial areas). SECTION 3. Historical features will include the names of early residents and/or events of significance to the area's development. SECTION 4. A. Significant contributions by individuals will be based on the following criteria: 1. Contributions of at least 50% of the total cost of the project; contributions less than 50o shall be considered if the total amount represents a significant personal contribution to the total cost. RESOLUTION NO. 874-9-88(R) Page 2 2. Outstanding personal service based on ... excellence or duration of commitment. B. Contributions by individuals that do not meet the criteria established in IV. A., but that are nevertheless of major proportions, will be considered for recognition in a manner suitable to the particular facility. SECTION 5. To initiate the application of this policy, a need will be identified and made known to the City Council by City staff, who may receive input from citizens or Boards and Commissions. SECTION 6. Whenever possible, an appropriate body will be charged by the Council to review the need and bring forward a recommendation. SECTION 7. The Council will then act upon the recommen- dation of the recommending body. SECTION 8. In those instances where the facility under consideration is a joint City of Allen-AISD project, both School Board and City Council will review and act upon the recommendation. SECTION 9.
