A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, IN SUPPORT OF THE COLLIN COUNTY
COMMISSION ON THE BICENTENNIAL OF THE U.S. CONSTITUTION
AND ENDORSING CONSTRUCTION OF A CONSTITUTIONAL PLAZA.
WHEREAS, we, the members of the Allen City Council, as citizens of the
United States of America and as representatives of our constituents, uphold the
ordainment and establishment of the Constitution as a means of securing the
blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity; and,
WHEREAS, we believe it is important that all citizens fully understand the
provisions, principles and meaning of the Constitution so they can support,
preserve and defend it against encroachment; and,
WHEREAS, the Collin County Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S.
Constitution was created in 1987 to support and participate in a five-year
nationwide commemorative effort to stimulate citizen awareness and interest in the
history of the Constitution by sponsoring informative, entertaining and educational
activities for all Collin County citizens; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Texas and the U. S. Bicentennial Commission have
designated Collin County as an official bicentennial community; and,
WHEREAS, the Collin County Bicentennial Commission has developed plans
to construct a Constitutional Plaza to provide a public area for our citizens to
learn about and reflect upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of American
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, the people of the City of Allen do enjoy the blessings of liberty,
the guarantees of the Bill of Rights, equal protection of the law under the
Constitution, and the freedoms derived from it;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ALLEN, COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS: That the City Council of Allen, Texas,
hereby declares its support of the Collin County Commission on the Bicentennial
of the U. S. Constitution; endorses efforts to construct a Constitutional Plaza; and
encourages the citizens of the City of Allen to actively participate in this
historically and educationally significant endeavor.
