A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE CHANGE IN USE OF
HILLSIDE PARK, LOCATED AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF
HILLSIDE DRIVE AND F.M. 2170, FROM A RECREATIONAL AREA TO
COMMERCIAL UTILIZATION.
WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan recommended that the park be phased
out once alternative facilities are available at other locations;
WHEREAS, the approved Land Use Plan indicates that the highest and best
use of this property is commercial and the City of Allen will rezone this property
for such purposes in the future; and,
WHEREAS, this 9.2 -acre park is located at the southwest corner of Hillside
Drive and F.M. 2170 in the eastern part of the City; and,
WHEREAS, this site contains an elevated water tank, two lighted and two
unlighted ballfields , and an unpaved parking area and the park is not a compatible
use with residential areas because of its active use and lighting; and,
and,
WHEREAS, the park has a negative impact on the adjacent residential areas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ALLEN, COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. That the City Council determines that the Park and
Recreation Department should proceed with plans to find alternative facilities at
other locations when funds are available.
SECTION 2. That the City Council determines that the the use of Hillside
Park should be changed from a recreational area to a commercial district.
SECTION 3. That the City Council concludes that recreational improve-
ments to this site be of a temporary nature.
