A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN
COUNTY, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE EFFORT OF THE ALLEN
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO PLAN FOR
AND PROVIDE ADEQUATE FACILITIES IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN A HIGH
QUALITY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IN THE CITY OF ALLEN.
WHEREAS, the City of Allen and the Allen Independent School District are separate
governmental entities, having their own governing structure, but having a common
service area, and a large overlapping geographical area served by the respective
jurisdictions; and,
WHEREAS, Allen is one of the fastest growing communities in the Dallas / Fort Worth
metroplex area having an average growth rate between 1980 and 1990 of 12.81%; and,
WHEREAS, 1990 census statistics indicate that almost 1/4 of the entire population of the
City is of public school age, being between 5 and 17 years of age; and,
WHEREAS, population projections indicate the community will continue to grow at a rapid
rate well past the turn of the century; and,
WHEREAS, quality public school system is essential to serve the large number of
students of school age and to provide adequately for the orderly growth of the
community; and,
WHEREAS, the public school system is a integral part of the community and benefits all
of the citizens of the community; and,
WHEREAS, adequate facilities are necessary to house programs offered in a quality
public school system; and,
WHEREAS, recognizing this need the Board of Trustees appointed a citizens committee
organized as "Project Kids" to advise them on growth trends and recommend appropriate
strategies for meeting the needs of students and staff for the near and long term; and,
WHEREAS, based upon public input the Board of Trustees placed before the voters a
bond proposal that will allow the construction of a new middle school and a new
elementary school; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees has called a bond election for March 6, 1993, for that
purpose;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The City Council supports the efforts of the Board of Trustees to
r adequately plan for the present and future school population of the community, as
represented in the bond proposal to be voted on March 6, 1993.
SECTION 2: The Allen City Council recommends that all citizens of the community
study the issues closely and vote on March 6, 1993.
