A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN
COUNTY, TEXAS, DECLARING PARTICIPATION AND SUPPORT OF S.B.
632/H.B. 1695 CONCERNING EXPANDED LOCAL CALLING SCOPES
WHEREAS, the citizens of many communities are unable to call neighboring communities
without incurring a long distance charge; and
WHEREAS, having very limited local calling areas impedes economic development; and
WHEREAS, affordable phone service for many citizens of modest means is unavailable
because of limited or small local calling areas; and
WHEREAS, in the 73rd Session of the Texas Legislature two bills have been filed, S. B.
632 and H. B. 1695, which call for expansion of local calling areas to 22 miles and under
certain circumstances up to 50 miles; and
WHEREAS, over 90 cities, several counties and school districts are working together as
Texas Communities for Expanded Local Calling Areas; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS THAT:
SECTION 1: The City of Allen does hereby join with the Texas Communities for
Expanded Local Calling Areas in support of S. B. 632 and H. B. 1695.
SECTION 2: The City Council authorizes the City Manager or his designate to work
with the Texas Communities for Expanded Local Calling Areas in order to secure passage
of said legislation.
