Min - Animal Shelter Advisory Committee - 2023 - 03/15 - Regular ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING MARCH 15,2023 Present: Absent: Jessica Lockhart, Co-Chair Pamela Ackerman, Chair Deborah Michnick, Secretary Ed Swierenga Dr. Alan Coffman, DVM Traci Dyck Nat Dreyer Deputy Chief Kyle Taliaferro Call to Order With a quorum of the Board members present, the Regular Meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee was called to order by Co-Chairperson Jessica Lockhart at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday,March 15 2023. 1. Approve Minutes of the March 15,2023,Meeting. The minutes were approved by the acclamation of the board, after one error was noticed and corrected. 2. Received an Update on Staffing for Animal Control Officers,and Shelter Operations. ACO Mikayla Hailey was hired last December. Sr.ACO Angela Hall left in February. 3. Received an Update on addition of VIP/COP Administrative Volunteers. The Allen CERT members are very interested in helping.as Shelter VIP Volunteers. We have at least 6-8 that are in the pipeline. 4. Received an Update on Eagle Scout Projects and Play Yard Fencing Project. Received a podium for the lobby, as,well as agility equipment. The large play yard was refenced turning one yard into two. 5. Received an Update on the recent Sink Hole in the Small Play Yard. A sink hole appeared in the small play yard in early February. It has been fixed,but the fence, gate and shade cover will need to be replaced at a future date. 6. Received an Update on Proposed Facility Projects. New Security Cameras are in the works. Getting quotes for play yard turf, but after board discussion,the turf project was canceled. ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING MARCH 15,2023 7. Received an Update on Request for Staff Suggestions, Changes,and Improvements. Request made by Co-Chairperson Jessica Lockhart, asking staff and volunteers what they would like to see changed or modified to improve shelter operations. 8. Discussed Shelter Operational Processes and Current Statistics. Due to continuing staff shortages,the shelter is still closed on Sundays. 9. Received Update on Recent and upcoming Events. We had our first ever volunteer luncheon. April 9t-15t is National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week. 10. Discussed Proposed Amendments to the Allen Code of Ordinances,Chapter 3—Animals and Fowl,and/or Standard Operating Procedures. Modifications were suggested to the"Prohibited Animals"ordinance, as well as updates to the "Tethering"ordinance. Adjournment MOTION: Upon a motion made by Dr.Alan Coffman and a second by Nat Dreyer, the Board voted six (6) for and none (0) opposed to adjourn the Regular Meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee at 8:17 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
