' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN
COUNTY, TEXAS, TO APPLY FOR, ACCEPT, REJECT, ALTER, OR TERMINATE
GRANT #25869-01, A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS, OFFICE OF THE
GOVERNOR, CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION PROVIDING FUNDING FOR NEW
PHYSICAL FITNESS EQUIPMENT FOR POLICE PERSONNEL.
WHEREAS, the risk for cardiovascular disease is higher among law enforcement officers than it is for the
rest of the population; and
WHEREAS, it appears that chronic stress in police officers may be a factor in heart disease's elevated levels
among these men and women; and
WHEREAS, research has shown that being physically fit and maintaining good health assists with preventing heart
disease and other illnesses related to stress and poor physical conditioning; and
WHEREAS, the City of Allen Police Department desires to promote better health conditions and the physical
fitness equipment to its personnel in an effort to assist officers with reducing stress and promoting a healthy life
style through new physical fitness equipment for the department; and
WHEREAS, the City of Allen has agreed to provide space for the equipment at the Police Department
Headquarters building.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
' COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City of Allen has agreed that in the event of loss or misuse of the Criminal Justice Division
Funds for a Physical Fitness Equipment Grant (application #25869-01), they will bereturned to the State of Texas,
Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division in full.
SECTION 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for, accept, reject, alter, or terminate a grant from
the State of Texas, Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division to assist the City of Allen and the Allen
Police Department to fund a Family Violence Investigation and Prevention Officer (Application #25869-01).
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage.
