' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN
COUNTY, TEXAS, TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS, OFFICE
OF THE GOVERNOR, CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION, PROVIDING FUNDING FOR
FOUR SEGWAY PERSONAL TRANSPORTERS TO ENHANCE COMMUNITY
ORIENTED POLICING, IF AWARDED.
WHEREAS, the City of Allen and its Police Department believe in the philosophies of Community Oriented
Policing and being proactive in the fight against crime; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Allen Police Department believes that being proactive in the community, schools and
retail developments helps to lower crime and increase one's feeling of safety and security; and,
WHEREAS, the City ofAllen Police Department believes the addition of four Segway Personal Transporters will
allow police officers to be proactive in the neighborhoods, schools, retail developments, and at community events.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN,
COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City of Allen has agreed that in the event of loss or misuse of the Criminal Justice Division
Funds for the Segways for Community Policing Grant (application # 20327-01), the funds will be returned to the
State of Texas, Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division in full.
SECTION 2. The City of Allen is committed to funding all required and applicable matching funds through cash
and/or in-kind.
SECTION 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for, accept, reject, alter, or terminate a grant from
the State of Texas, Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division to assist the City of Allen in funding four
Segway Personal Transporters. The City Manager is also hereby authorized to expend funds in accordance with the
grant application.
SECTION 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately from and after its passage.

COUNTY, TEXAS, ON THIS THE 26TH DAY OF FEBRUARY, 2008.
