R-2385-3-05RESOLUTION NO. 2385-3-05(R) ' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, IN SUPPORT OF THE INDEXING OF THE STATE MOTOR FUEL TAX; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Texas is projected to grow by some 10 million citizens by 2025 (less than 20 years); and, WHEREAS, Collin County is adding 90 people per day and will double the current population to more than 1.2 million residents by 2025; and, WHEREAS, North Texas is already over $50 billion short in highway funding for roads such as US 75, SH 121, US 380, Preston Road, LBJ, 1-35 and others; and, WHEREAS, the Speaker of the House, Tom Craddick, has announced his support of indexing the motor fuel tax currently in place, along with the Texas Urban Transportation Alliance, the North Texas Commission, the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition, the Conference of Urban Counties, the Regional Transportation Council, the Commissioners of Collin County, and numerous cities and counties across Texas; and, WHEREAS, Governor Rick Perry and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst have expressed interest in hearing more about the issue; and, WHEREAS, this is not a new tax, but rather an indexing; and, WHEREAS, indexing the motor fuel tax to track growth in the economy has long been one of the measures advocated to expand resources available for transportation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALLEN, COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The Allen City Council urges all citizens to join us and Speaker Cmddick in supporting additional funding that would enable work on our road infrastructure that would help reduce congestion for both our generation and many generations coming to the City of Allen and our state of Texas. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately from and after its passage.
